“From the classroom to the corporate world – a chrysalis transformation of the students to a successful entrepreneur, a dedicated professional, a dynamic business leader and a motivated researcher working towards the growth of the nation”.

Objectives

The department aims at academic excellence by recognizing the potential in students and providing:

  • The essential knowledge of accounting principles, tax and audit procedures, information technology, and their applications in different business situations.
  • To acquaint students with the managerial skills and techniques of statistical analysis along with basic mathematical skills.
  • The awareness on economic policies and various statutory provisions applicable to trade, industry and business
  • The knowledge of import and export procedures, to meet the challenges in the changing business environment.
  • Interaction with the industry –a channel of knowledge and exposure necessary to respond to the diversified needs of the industry.

 

Department of Commerce is one of the pioneering departments of St. Ann’s College with 25 years of academic contribution of excellence. The intervening years the department has grown from student strength of 919 UG students and 90 PG students and 22 committed faculty members. The department offers Undergraduate courses viz. B.Com (General), B.Com (computers), B.Com (Foreign Trade), B.Com (Honors), B.Com (IFA), and a Post-Graduation course. The department has MOU s with Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, ACCA,UK, International Skill Development Corporation ISDC,UK. It has excellent infrastructural facilities by way of well-equipped Commerce lab and Computer lab and the recent addition being Entrepreneurial Development Cell. It has completed two UGC sponsored minor research projects and one is progress. There are 104 paper presentations in International and National seminars and Conferences and more than 112 publications in International journals and seminar proceedings with ISBN number and has 6 books Co -authored and 2 edited by the faculty members. 4 Minor Research projects are completed and 4 are ongoing by our faculty.
